3 Excellent Ways to Recycle Video Content

4

You’ve spent hours of planning, shooting, and editing top tier video content to educate and entertain your fans, but if you have a “post it to YouTube and forget about it” mentality, you aren’t getting the maximum potential from your videos. I’ve already written how to recycle general content, but many people aren’t thinking outside of the box to get the most value from their videos.

Upload in New Places

Just because YouTube is the biggest whale in the ocean, it doesn’t mean that you should limit yourself to uploading your videos to Google’s popular video hosting platform. Branch out to discover new audiences that may not normally see your videos, such as Vimeo and Instagram. Be sure to share your video content across any of your social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Pinterest; every share and like gives your video another chance to get watched by someone new!

Making your excellent videos was the hard part, and the internet is a very big place, so why not cast the biggest net that you can?

Reutilizing Video Content

You’re undercutting the value of your videos if you merely upload it and hoping that everyone will click on your content, especially since there are some great ways to reuse the core content of a video across multiple mediums.

It’s easy to write a blog post about a new video release! Here are a few sample ideas:

  • An introduction to the video, with the video itself embedded within the blog post.
  • A detailed article that highlights the “behind-the-scenes” or “making of” the video.
  • A blog post that delivers additional information or exposition than what the video provided to answer questions viewers may have.

If your videos are audibly fun or informative, why not turn them into a few podcasts? Not only would listeners on the go be able to hear your message, you’d have an even bigger audience as well, since you will be able to post your brand-new podcast to new platforms like iTunes, SoundCloud, and Google Play.

Boil down the content, take some screenshots, and repurpose the video into a SlideShare presentation. It doesn’t hurt to throw it out there!

Make Promotional Material

If you can think of a better way to get people interested in watching your videos than a teaser using snippets of footage, I’d like to hear it!

Your favorite social media platforms are the perfect place to post GIFs and little trailers to get them excited to watch your current lineup of videos, or to direct them to your online channel of choice. Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter are all perfectly designed for displaying tiny video clips coupled with a handy link to the actual video.

If your videos are considered to be eye candy, like swimming along a Hawaiian coral reef, watching humpback whales off the coast of Alaska, or kayaking the Florida Everglades with a GoPro, consider taking screenshots and reposting those gems to websites that cater to pretty images, like Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and Flickr. Just don’t forget to link your screenshot image galleries back to the original video where you clipped the screenshots!

The next time you spend a good chunk of time crafting a brilliant video, just keep in mind that tossing it on to YouTube and forgetting about it isn’t the way to go if you want to get the most out of your videos. Get creative, think outside of the box, and cast the biggest net you can!
